Matheus Gomes

Matheus joined RJI as a Designer in 2021 and is responsible for assisting with project development from schematic design through construction documents.

Matheus was born in Minas Gerais, Brazil, where he spent his early childhood surrounded by a lush tropical/sub-tropical landscape. From an early age, he felt a strong cultural connection to his community and spent most of his days outside.

At the age of nine, Matheus emigrated to the United States with his family where he lived in multiple towns across New England. He attended the University of Massachusetts Amherst where he received a bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture & Regional Planning and was selected as the 2021 LAF Olmsted Scholar. Prior to joining RJI, Matheus worked several design-build jobs and has a trade background as an electrician and a masonry worker.

Since joining RJI, Matheus has worked on various residential projects across the United States and Mexico. He has also assisted in the design development of Phipps Ocean Park in Palm Beach, Florida.

Music has always played an important role in Matheus’s life. Outside of the design studio, Matheus spends his time serving as the creative director for a Miami-based record label and media company. He also explores his passion for the Arts through photography and graphic design.

The belief that landscapes have the ability to bring people together by speaking for the land and communities that they serve is ultimately the driving factor behind his work.
