Wan Ting has studied and worked as a landscape designer for 7 years, in 5 cities, and 3 countries.
Wuhan, China, is the city where she spent the first 22 years of her life, and the same place that catalyzed her initial love for design, art and nature. Phoenix, AZ, is where she had her first manifesto as a designer to look at nature-human relationships. Hokkaido, Japan is the place she began to come into her own as a landscape designer by working with local communities, learning indigenous methods and mentoring local students. Providence, RI, is where she discovered her interests in interdisciplinary study and research. She is particularly interested in topics such as land-art, digital art, exhibition design, looking at urban ecological issues and social justice. After earning her Master of Landscape Architecture at RISD, Wan Ting moved to Coconut Grove where she started her professional practice at RJI.
As a member of the design staff, Wan Ting is actively involved in all aspects of a project from schematic design to construction documents, including both coordination and production. She brings what she learned in school and beyond to help communicate design intents with powerful visual language.
Prior to RJI, she also worked at the Rhode Island School of Design’s Department of Digital Media, where she co-taught a winter-session course, “Narrative Games”. Aside from Landscape Architecture, Wan Ting enjoys a variety of work including scientific illustration, comics, stop-motion animation and video game design/programming.
