The White Dove Garden, a project commissioned during the challenging times of the global pandemic, embodies the very essence of what a garden should be—more than a mere assemblage of plants and stones; it’s a living, breathing tapestry of life and harmony.

This journey began with the vision of a client who sought to transform what was once a faux grass golf field into a captivating garden that would not only preserve the natural ecology but also stand as a timeless haven for generations to come.

The garden’s central theme revolves around sustainability and ecological preservation. Invasive plants were removed to allow the native flora and fauna to thrive. Trend setting in its commitment to native ecologies, the White Dove Garden consists of a rich tapestry of edges which are widely understood to be the highest performing ecotones found in nature.
Gravel pathways wind gracefully through the garden, with local keystone aprons welcoming visitors. The concept of the garden seamlessly blending into its surroundings extends to the adjacent properties, encouraging a harmonious flow between them.

The first pivotal decision was to create a circulation path that maximized the garden’s potential for experiences and social interaction. The landscape architects repositioned the driveway to the periphery, allowing the house to reveal itself gradually, as if it emerged from the edge of a tranquil woodland. As visitors explore the White Dove Garden, they encounter delightful surprises—water walls, blue light monoliths, and a profusion of butterflies and fragrant blooms.
Instead of imposing concrete structures, large limestone blocks were employed, giving the impression of natural boulders, and allowing vegetation to flourish.

A serene gray pool blending harmoniously with the garden, serves as a serene focal point. The landscape architects maintained the existing pool and added stone elements to introduce movement and soothing sounds.
At the client’s request, a yoga pavilion was introduced, becoming a captivating centerpiece in the lower garden. It seamlessly integrates with the environment and complements the landscape’s rich micro climates, including the adjacent freshwater ecosystem.

One remarkable feature that sparks conversation is the towering Corypha umbraculifera, the Talipot Palm, which now stands as a magnificent focal point.

With a diverse canopy of native trees, such as Live Oaks, Simpson Stoppers, Black Ironwoods, and Pigeon Plums, the garden comes to life with an abundance of pink and white blossoms, echoing the client’s affinity for delicate beauty.
Massive trees, meticulously placed to screen the neighboring three-story house, provide privacy and a sense of sanctuary within the garden. The planting design frames beguiling views of the adjacent park and the turquoise green of Biscayne Bay.

The White Dove Garden is a vibrant garden, with countless moments to discover. It is a living garden, filled with the melodies of birds, the colors of butterflies, and the dance of dragonflies. It’s a sanctuary that entertains, nurtures, and harmonizes with the natural world—a garden designed for generations to cherish.
