Iroko is a private single-family residential garden designed for a Bahamian family. This garden came to life through a close collaboration between the landscape architects, client, and architects. The landscape architects were brought in during the early stages and helped develop a thoughtful site plan and adjust the building orientation to maximize open water views. The landscape architects additionally designed the site’s hardscape, water elements, grading and planting.

The garden’s foundation features native Bahamian species, integrated with resilient plants that thrive in the Caribbean climate. Every plant was grown in South Florida and carefully selected by the landscape architect for transportation to the Bahamas.

The prioritization was given to locally sourced materials to reinforce the garden’s authentic sense of place. The walls feature native Bahamian stone stacked in a traditional method, grounding the design in local heritage. This mindful selection of materials reflects the ethos of a design that respects and celebrates the character of the Caribbean region.

The architecture is simple and elegant, and the garden functions as a series of interconnected outdoor spaces linked by shaded walkways and lush vegetation. Dense layers of planting along the property line provide complete privacy from outside views. Paths weave through tropical foliage to connect the entry, pool, and dock areas, creating a seamless flow between spaces.

Iroko is a sanctuary that embodies the calm and beauty of the Caribbean landscape.
